    Eddie Pope was born in Anson County on January 26, 1954 and after 30 years of service with the Town of Wadesboro as a dispatcher and later as the first fire chief for the town, he became the owner and operator of Pope's Fire Protection. Tragically, on July 15, Eddie Pope was in his garage when a tree fell through the roof during a thunderstorm, landing on him.

    Danny Wade Pearson, 36, was arrested July 5 after a woman contacted police to tell them her car had several things stolen from it while at Pearson's business, Pearson's Truck Service, according to a release from the Wadesboro Police Department. The victim reported the theft June 17, but Pearson was not arrested until detectives received arrest warrants on July 5. Pearson was charged with larceny of motor vehicle parts, permitting a place to be used as a chop shop, chop shop activity by theft or fraud, possession of stolen goods or property and larceny, all felonies.

The Anson County Historical Society gave guests a step back into the past on one of the most historical days in the country on July 4. Steve Bailey, an employee with the historical society, led a group to four museums in Wadesboro: the Boggan-Hammond House, Alexander Little Wing, Ashe-Covington Medical Museum and Museum of Early America: The Leavitt House. According to the historical society, the Boggan-Hammond House was built in 1796 by Patrick Boggan and is the oldest house in Wadesboro.
