    The first African-American doctor in Anson County I am aware of was Dr. Edward Lorenzo Thomas, who was born in Statesville in the 1880s. He graduated from Shaw University in 1905 and began his early career as a doctor in Wadesboro as early as December of 1907.

Cash is being held in the Anson County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond, according to jail records.
