The Historic Preservation Com-mission honored historic church architecture in Hillsboro during this year's ceremony, which was held in the historic sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, which was first constructed in 1914 and rebuilt in 1929 after a fire in 1928 destroyed the interior.

    A Hillsboro resident who lost his life in Vietnam on June 3, 1967, will have his name dedicated to the Waco Vietnam Veterans Memorial with family members present Thursday, March 29. Army Major Lowell Edward Morgan, a 1955 Hillsboro High School graduate who was born in Hillsboro and raised a family here, will be honored with the addition to the memorial, located at Indian Spring Park in Waco. Morgan flew the Grumon OV-1 Mohawk and was a reconnais-sance pilot.

    The Department of Public Safety investigated a two-vehicle collision that killed a West High School student Thursday evening, February 8. According to reports, a pickup driven by Jacob Bates of Elm Mott and a tractor trailer were traveling southbound on Interstate 35 in Elm Mott when the vehicles collided at 6:30 p.m. Bates was transported to Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco by CareFlite ground ambulance and he was pronounced deceased at 7:39 p.m. West Independent School District Superintendent David Truitt released a statement canceling all extracurricular events scheduled for Friday, February 9, late Thurs-day evening after the accident.

    A pursuit that began in McLennan County and reached speeds over 100 miles per hour made its way into Hillsboro Wednesday afternoon, January 10. According to the McLennan County Sheriff's Office, the high-speed chase was initiated by the Department of Public Safety after the vehicle failed to stop for authorities in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 in Elm Mott. The chase went into Hillsboro and through residential areas before returning to Interstate 35 and making its way back to McLennan County.

    The Hillsboro Department of Public Safety announced Thursday, January 4, that a suspect had been arrested in connection with a bank robbery that occurred in Hillsboro Tuesday, January 2. According to a press release issued by the HDPS, at approximately 2:21 p.m. January 2, dispatchers received a report of a robbery at the First National Bank of Central Texas, located at 300 East Elm Street in downtown Hillsboro. Police officers arrived within approximately one minute, but they were unable to locate the suspect in the building or the area.

    The suspect of a high speed pursuit that began in Hillsboro was detained by the Hill County Sheriff's Office at 7:59 a.m. Wednesday, October 18. According to authorities with the Hill County Sheriff's Office, a traffic stop was initiated in the 200 block of the east service road in Hillsboro after the vehicle ran through a red light in the 1400 block of Corsicana Highway. Two passengers jumped out of the vehicle before the car began to drive away from authorities.

    The death of a 32-year-old Hillsboro man was investigated by the Hillsboro Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Unit Monday evening, October 2. Hillsboro police and Fire/Rescue were dispatched to a parking lot in the 500 block of Abbott Avenue regarding a man who was found inside of a vehicle with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Justice of the Peace Brad Henley pronounced Christopher Adam Thompson dead at the scene at 7:33 p.m. Hillsboro DPS stated in a press release that the cause of death is suspected as suicide, according to witness statements from family and friends who witnessed the incident.

    The Hill County Sheriff's Office and Hubbard Police Department investigated a shooting death at approximately 6:59 a.m. Saturday, August 19. Authorities responded to a residence in the 1000 block of State Highway 171 in Hubbard in reference to a gunshot victim. According to a Hill County Sheriff's Office press release, Hubbard police located a 25-year-old Waco man, identified as Cody William Jones, inside the residence with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

According to reports, a 33-year-old Waco woman surrendered to authorities at the Hillsboro Police Department in the 300 block of North Waco Street. The woman was wanted locally for three counts of forgery of a financial instrument and three counts of fraudulent use/possession of identifying information.
