Right after, Sheriff's Dispatch received a call from Pine Prairie PD Officers stating they were investigating an armed robbery of a pharmacy in Pine Prairie where a suspect, armed with a rifle, had fled in a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle at the convenience store.

Even as they voted 37-2 for the budget proposal, senators already had an eye toward a looming special session that could raise more money to help chip away at a $600 million shortfall in the financial year that begins July 1. "We came into the session with the inability to raise any revenue, so the only thing we're here to do is decide how to impose $600 million in cuts," Finance Committee Chairman Eric LaFleur told senators as he opened debate on the budget.

    Firefighters in Ville Platte found a 106-year-old man dead in his home Saturday morning on Robert F. Kennedy Avenue. Fire Chief Chris Harrison said the victim was killed in the fire which was reported around 10 a.m. It's still not clear yet what happened.

    Demetrius Bergeron, 19, of Ville Platte was driving a 2002 Chevrolet truck westbound on LA 104 when, for unknown reasons, his truck veered off the the right side of the roadway and overturned when he attempted to get back on the road and overcorrected. According to Master Trooper Brooks David, Bergeron was not wearing his seat belt at the time and was ejected from his vehicle.
