    Visitors from Van Wert's sister city, Sumoto City, Japan arrived in Van Wert on Thursday evening at Camp Clay Aqua Park and are trying to squeeze in as many sights and sounds as they can before leaving on Sunday morning. A flight delay caused the visitors to arrive a little later than planned but all seemed to be back on schedule Friday as they started the day with tours of the Brumback Library and Van Wert County Courthouse.

    Van Wert's Board of Education has begun exploring the idea of moving all the high school sporting events to a new athletic complex to be built on the campus of the high school and elementary buildings, just south of town. The concept, which is still very much in idea stage with no dollar figures attached to the project at this point, would mean the end of the school's use of the baseball diamond at Smiley Park, the softball diamond at Jubilee Park, and - most notably - end the use of Eggerss Stadium, which has housed Van Wert football since 1936.
