A Tehachapi Police Department officer who responded to a call at a Tehachapi store for a possible forgery in progress got more than what he expected. Officer Mike Adams contacted 37-year-old Kasey Newlen of Bear Valley Springs, who witnesses pointed to as the person allegedly trying to use a forged check to make a purchase, according to TPD Chief Kent Kroeger, Police detained Newlen and later arrested him on suspicion of commercial burglary, possessing a fraudulent check and possessing methamphetamine.

A mountain lion attacked a 115-pound German Shepherd at a residence on Stirrup Way near the top of Bear Valley Springs on Feb. 11.
