    A trial began Tuesday in Solano County Superior Court for a Vacaville man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl he met online. Andrew H. Mooney is charged with two counts of oral copulation with a person under 16, lewd and lascivious act upon a child, and sexual penetration by a foreign object on a person under 16. Mooney, 24 at the time, had met the girl, then 13, in October 2015 on the social media site Meet Me, according to court discussions.

    A former music teacher sentenced in 2014 to 11 months in jail for molesting several children over a span of 11 years was back in chains and prison stripes for a Tuesday court appearance, where he once again admitted to violating the terms of his probation. Corey G. Wilkins, 38, of Dixon, pleaded no contest to two counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14. Following his 11-month sentence, he was given four years probation and required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.

    An American Canyon man faces up to 90 years in prison and more than $20 million in fines for using, officials suspect, his Vacaville clothing business as a front to sell drugs to high schoolers, the Department of Justice announced Monday. Maurice Antoine Jefferson, 42, of American Canyon, was arrested Monday and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and for possessing marijuana and cocaine for distribution within 1,000 feet of Will C. Wood High School on Marshall Road in Vacaville, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.

    The number of homeless public school students in Solano County has fluctuated in the past four years, from a record 2,200 in 2013 to 1,425 in 2015 to 2,080 in 2016 to 1,545 in 2017, and Vacaville-area districts this past year, reflecting county trends, tracked decidedly decreased numbers, the county Office of Education reported Wednesday. Districts with fewer numbers from the most recent reporting period, ending June 30, include Vacaville, with 197, down from 237 in 2016; Travis Unified, with 91, a sizable drop from 264; and Fairfield-Suisun Unified, Solano's largest district with more than 21,500 students, somewhat surprisingly with 687, down from 950.
