A report by TRIP, a national transportation research group, shows that deficient roads and bridges cost New Yorkers approximately $24.9 billion annually due to "higher vehicle operating costs, traffic crashes and congestion-related delays." That equals more than $1500 per driver in the Utica area in the form of extra vehicle operating costs from driving on roads needing repair, lost time and fuel due to delays, and costs of traffic crashes where roadway was contributing factor.
