    The Union Times These trees along New Hope Church Road in the Jonesville area were covered in snow that began falling this morning due to a cold front that moved in from the west overnight. The cold front is expected to cause as much as two inches of snow to fall on Union County through this afternoon and cause temperatures to fall into the teens overnight.

Heart Awareness Month and National Wear Red Day are part of the efforts of the "Go Red for Women Passion Committee" and the American Heart Association to publicize the threat heart disease poses to women.

    A state prisoner who escaped custody by jumping out of a bathroom window of the Union County Courthouse Friday afternoon was recaptured late Sunday night after being found hiding in a makeshift bed under an abandoned house in the Monarch area of Union. Brent Tyson Austin, 41, of Jonesville, is a prisoner of the South Carolina Department of Corrections .

    The voters of the City of Union voted this past Tuesday to change the city's form of government from mayor-council or "Strong Mayor" to council or "Weak Mayor." In 2017, Union City Council voted to put the following question to the voters of Union in a referendum that would be held Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018: Shall the municipal government of Union change its form of government from the mayor-council form to the council form? It was a yes or no question and this past Tuesday the answer was yes with 312 voters supporting the change and 221 opposed.
