In a statement released Wednesday, Broad River announced that Hilarity for Charity, the benefit comedy show presented by Broad River Electric Charities on Feb. 19, raised $5,000 for senior hunger charities in Cherokee, Spartanburg, and Union Counties.

    A cemetery overgrown with grass, undergrowth and even trees due to decades of neglect got some much needed attention this week thanks a group of community and law enforcement volunteers. To judge by some of the tombstones, the cemetery at the corner of West Henrietta and Lipsey streets in the Chambertown area of Union was still being used for burials as late as the mid-1980s.

    Two Jonesville men have been charged by the Union County Sheriff's Office in connection with six incidents involving the theft of nearly $31,000 worth of copper and other metals. Sheriff David Taylor announced Thursday that Donald Clayton Hodge Jr., 54, 303 Knitting Mill St., Jonesville and Jerome Glenn, 46, 305 Alman St., Jonesville are each charged with six counts of grand larceny, five counts of unlawful transport of non-ferrous metal, and one count of obtaining signature under false pretenses.
