A Union woman was arrested and charged with domestic violence after allegedly hitting the father of her child with a large children's toy.

In a ceremony at the Cedar Hill Plant Tuesday morning, members of the plant's management presented representatives from the Union office of MSA Home Health and Hospice with a check for $11,453.

    The City of Union will spend a total of just under $110,000 to make improvements to two parking lots serving a building it is leasing to a local industry on LSP Drive and to put a new roof on a building on East Main Street. During its September meeting this past Tuesday, Union City Council voted unanimously to award the bid for parking lot improvements to Sailors Asphalt for $45,240.

    A former Deputy Clerk of the Union County Clerk of Court's Office has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to embezzling more than $10,000 in child support funds over a five-year period. Julia Chandler Phipps, 42, 1326 Main Street, Buffalo, pleaded guilty Thursday before Judge Daniel D. Hall of York in General Sessions Court in the Main Courtroom of the Union County Courthouse to the following charges and received the following sentences: Embezzlement of public funds, 5 years suspended upon 18 months and three years probation with credit for one day already served and to pay $128.75 in fines and court costs.

    The Main Hall of USC Union is overflowing with artwork by 30 artists from across South Carolina as part of this year's Juried Art Show sponsored by the Union County Arts Council. In a statement released Thursday, UCAC Director Amber Ivey said that the 2018 Art Exhibit will be on display at USC Union through Friday, Nov. 2. The works on display are part of the UCAC's Annual Juried Art Show in which the submitted artwork is judged by a juror who will select the winning works.

    Two months after it was announced the new primary health center dedicated to providing state of the art medical care to the people of Union County will hold its grand opening this Friday. In a statement released this past Friday, Practice Administrator Judy Bullman announced that Healing Springs Health Care will hold its grand opening this Friday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Bullman said that Healing Springs Health Care, located at 128 Medical Sciences Drive, Union, was formed July 27 of this year "by four individuals that had a vision for Union and Union County to provide much need healthcare."
