    UKIAH >> A Ukiah man was detained for a mental health evaluation after reportedly lying down on Hospital Drive in front of an ambulance, the Ukiah Police Department reported. According to the UPD, officers were outside Ukiah Valley Medical Center around 8:12 p.m. Jan. 3 when they saw a 32-year-old man they knew to be a local transient standing in the middle of the road, blocking a VeriHealth Ambulance.

    An elderly Lucerne man was hit by a car and killed while attempting to walk across Highway 20 on Saturday. The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol investigators say that the victim, 84, was crossing the road near the intersection of Pomo Way as a 2001 Ford Escort driven by a 56-year-old man also from Lucerne, approached heading east.
