    A 25-year-old Ukiah man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence last week after reportedly causing a collision and fleeing the scene, the Ukiah Police Department reported. According to the UPD, a caller at 10:26 a.m. June 16 reported that a driver had caused a collision at the corner of School and Perkins streets, then left the scene.

    Progress on a new well planned at the corner of Brush Street and North Orchard Avenue has been halted after lab tests revealed the water it was producing has unacceptably high levels of manganese. Project Manager Jared Thiele said he got test results Friday that showed the water from the monitoring well drilled a couple of weeks ago contains levels of manganese, a trace mineral, that are “well above” acceptable amounts for drinking water.

    A Ukiah woman was arrested for allegedly stealing a package containing expensive medical equipment that was delivered to someone's home, the Ukiah Police Department reported. According to the UPD, officers were dispatched to a home in the 1000 block of North Pine Street around 8:45 a.m. when a resident reported seeing a woman taking a package from her porch.

    The Ukiah Police Department Friday released a sketch of a man suspected of trying to kidnap a teen-age girl in Ukiah more than two weeks ago. According to the UPD, a caller at 9:05 p.m. June 3 reported that a man had grabbed his 14-year-old sister from behind about 30 minutes before he called police.

    The Ukiah City Council Wednesday was asked to consider if the city might be the appropriate place for a new housing project that would provide shelter for those struggling with mental illness. “These are the most hard-core among the people you see on the street, the ones that are causing police department calls, emergency trips to the emergency room and causing other complaints,” said Mike Pallesen, the director of development for Rural Communities Housing Development Corporation.

    Nearly a year after it was filed, arguments for and against an appeal to uphold a lawsuit delaying the construction of a proposed Costco warehouse in Ukiah were held Wednesday in the First District Court of Appeals in San Francisco. City Attorney David Rapport attended the hearing and said afterward that the court had “90 days to file a decision,” and he could not guess how much of that time it would take to render a decision.
