    The Ukiah City Council recently approved spending nearly $25,000 to study traffic flows near Ukiah High School in an effort to ease congestion in the area. “Anybody who has kids has enjoyed the morning commute of gridlock in the area, specifically at the intersection of Low Gap Road and Bush Street,” City Engineer and Public Works Director Tim Eriksen told the City Council at its last meeting April 18. Eriksen was recommending the city pay consultant Omni-Means $54,930 to analyze traffic patterns at not just that intersection, but five more: North State Street and Empire Drive/Ford Road, North State Street and Low Gap Road, Despina Drive and Low Gap Road, Despina and Empire drives, and Despina Drive and Capps Lane.

    Shortly after urging her fellow Ukiah Valley Sanitation District board members to strive for a “District Transparency Certificate of Excellence,” Chairwoman Theresa McNerlin told Vice-Chair Andrea Reed to stop trying to prove whether or not the district illegally used taxpayer dollars to purchase political ads last fall. “I think we should try and clear our name if we can,” said Reed at the board's April 25 meeting, referring to a letter from district customer Don Crawford that Reed finally got placed on a board agenda for discussion after months of unsuccessful attempts.

    A Ukiah Police officer was dispatched to the Ukiah Hampton Inn on Airport Park Boulevard at 6:26 a.m. Thursday, regarding a stolen vehicle report. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the owner of the vehicle who reported that on Wednesday night he parked his black 2010 Toyota Prius in the parking lot of the hotel.

    Officers from the Ukiah Police Department, the California Highway Patrol and the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office assisted at Mendocino College's Ukiah Campus during Thursday's evacuation. Authorities evacuated the Mendocino Community College Ukiah campus about 5 p.m. Thursday, in response to a “potentially dangerous individual on campus.” Mendocino County sheriff's deputies evacuated the campus on Hensley Creek Road and a half-mile radius around it, and blocked off the entrance to the college, not allowing vehicles to come on campus.

The tournament was played on a beautiful sunny day, although many parts of the Ukiah Valley Golf Course were totally saturated and special rules of play had to be adopted.
