    As the summer fire season heats up, the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority reports a continual need for volunteers to aid paid firefighters. “Even if we reach full staffing in the next 10 years, we are still going to need volunteers to help us out ,” said Kirk Thomsen, interim chief of the UVFA, as he gave his monthly report to the Ukiah City Council at its last meeting.

    On Thursday, June 22 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall in Fort Bragg, the Mendocino Coast District Hospital Board decided not to shut down Obstetrics - Labor and Delivery services - at the Fort Bragg hospital. The Fort Bragg hospital is the only hospital serving the Mendocino Coast.

    A marijuana deal gone awry in Ukiah on Monday led to the arrest of four men from out of the area, the Ukiah Police Department reported. A caller at 11:37 p.m. reported a gun being brandished during a physical altercation in the 1800 block of Elm Street.

    Update: The MCSO is still investigating the alleged kidnapping of 24-year-old Trevor Carl Cooper, a Ukiah man who was reported missing on the night of June 13 and found at 4 a.m. on June 15, when he walked into Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits. Cooper was booked into county jail on June 17 on suspicion of renting a property to distribute drugs and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Wonderful spot: Grand scale, the public library 's heyday, cool & classical in the government-supported, 19th-century style, with the old desks perfectly adjusted to penmanship height, uneasily accepting keyboards because the chairs are too low & slouchy).
