    A 19-year-old Hydesville man is facing charges after letting the dogs out at a Mendocino County animal shelter. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that authorities say Joseph Viltrakis broke into the Ukiah shelter Thursday while trying to retrieve his girlfriend's service dog.

    Ukiah >> “Emerald Tri-County,” a marijuana raid that occurred last week at the junction of Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity counties, led to the eradication of 86,578 plants, Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman reported. Allman opened a press conference Friday by conceding law enforcement hasn't paid much attention to the Island Mountain area, which is described as the original Emerald Triangle, but plans to go back in September for another round.

    Two of the three people arrested following a stabbing near Oak Manor Park were named this week by the Ukiah Police Department. Capt Justin Wyatt said Roman J. Soto, 25, of Point Arena, is suspected of driving the SUV that witnesses said blocked the victims' car on Oak Manor Drive around 7:30 p.m. June 18, before the driver was stabbed and another man appeared to have been dragged out of the car and kidnapped.

    The City of Ukiah Softball league games will continue throughout the month of July, ending in playoff games near the end of the month between the highest ranked teams in seeded positions for most of the leagues. All of the city league's playoffs will be held at Ukiah Softball Fields located on River St. The Women's Recreational Division will hold their playoffs for the top five teams on Wednesday, July 22. The Women's Intermediate Division will hold playoffs the same evening for the top three seeded teams.

    The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office this week seized or eradicated the following items from seven search warrants on seven parcels of property off Hogtrap Road and South Face Road, Island Mountain: The final totals of assets seized and warrants served during “Operation Emerald Tri-County” - this past week's marijuana search warrant sweeps in the remote Island Mountain area - were released during a Friday afternoon press conference in Ukiah featuring the three sheriffs of the Emerald Triangle. In total, deputies from Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity counties served 20 search warrants, made four arrests and seized or eradicated 86,578 adult marijuana plants, as well as 25 guns and $8,877 in cash.

Greg Van Patten of the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office, and now the suspect in the case is being held on upgraded charges of suspected involuntary manslaughter, according to the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office.
