    There were nine alcohol-related arrests reported by the office of the California Highway Patrol in Ukiah dating back to Nov. 17 leading up to this year's Thanksgiving holiday weekend, part of a statewide trend of increased fatal collisions and DUI-related arrests statewide, according to statistics generated by the CHP for the ongoing holiday period. Ukiah CHP Public Information Officer Olegario Marin estimated there were about 10 DUI arrests between Wednesday Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 26, but he said the official figures could increase due to the fact some reports are still being generated by the department.

    One of the tables in the winery was full of “Not Harry's Nuts,” a wide variety of roasted nuts created by Ukiah resident Erin Belle. “I started making them about a year ago because I wanted a healthy snack for myself,” said Belle, explaining that she still makes them in her kitchen and creates new flavors through “trial and error.” “It makes the kitchen smell wonderful,” said her mother, Mary, as Belle pointed out her newest flavors of pecans: “winter spiced” and “apple harvest,” which she said feature Gowan's apple cider made in Philo.
