    Halloween in the San Bernardino Mountains is unlike that of the valley below, in that there are lots of community activities and very little house-to-house wanderings of gremlins in costumes. In the Crestline community, 'Trick or Treat Crestline Merchants' on Saturday, October 28, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Top Town and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. along Lake Drive, will begin the annual Halloween tradition of collecting goodies while dressed up in costume.

    Sheriff's deputies from the Twin Peaks station responded to a report of a human hand protruding from the ground around 7:19 p.m. on Thursday, October 19 in a wooded area near Scenic View Drive and Highland Drive in Crestline. According to a sheriff's press release, the San Bernardino County Fire Department received information from an unknown female that a human hand was sticking out of the ground in a cave dug into the hillside near what was described as a glass bottle dump.

    In response to requests from the community, local businesses and chambers of commerce, Mountain Area Regional Transit Authority has extended its weekend Trolley Demonstration Service through Sunday, October 29. According to MARTA Community Outreach Coordinator Tiffany Millburn, the current demonstration project, which got underway last Memorial Day weekend, was slated to end on Labor Day, Monday, September 4th. 'Since that time,' Millburn said, 'Mountain Transit has been inundated with requests from many of our community partners to extend the Rim Weekend Trolley.'

    A 45-year-old man from the Riverside County community of Wildomar drowned in Lake Gregory on Tuesday, July 11, while apparently attempting to swim from the lake's north shore to the south shore. According to a sheriff's press release, the victim, who was identified as Wayne Poulo Kizler, was last seen by his son, whose name was not released.

    In response to complaints from nearby residents and businesses, San Bernardino County Code Enforcement officers, on Tuesday, May 23, swooped down and ordered closed a self-described 'cannabis lounge' called 'The Blazing Bear,' which was being operated out of the Lake Gregory Coffee House. In its Notice of Violation, Code Enforcement cited the business for operating a commercial cannabis activity, which is prohibited in all land use districts within the county.

    A 24-year-old Apple Valley man has been arrested after threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend and conduct a massacre at Lake Arrowhead Village, where the unidentified 20-year-old woman was employed. Twin Peaks Sheriff's Station received a call from the planned victim around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 26, reporting that her ex-boyfriend, Joseph Gene Williams, had sent threatening text and photo messages to her.

The contentious meeting had Mick Hill and Hugh Bialecki clashing over incomplete facts on the sites, as two involved community members were pressing the issue of creating a new park in Crestline as soon as possible.

    Rim of the World Recreation and Park District reviewed its revenue, expenses, maintenance needs and heard of plans to again ask the voters for an increase in its assessment to keep the district 'viable' at its Special Meeting of the Board of Directors, Budget Workshop on May 1. According to documents obtained by The Alpenhorn News , Rim of the World Recreation and Park District's annual revenue for fiscal year 2016/17 is projected to be $1,101,648 with expenses projected at $1,091,725 leaving a surplus of $9,923. In comparing budget figures from its audited actual fiscal year 2015/16 to its final budget for fiscal year 2016/17, ROWRPD found its revenue declining from $1,156,330 down to $1,101,648, a decrease of $54,682.
