    A Christian nonprofit drafted much of the language in Mississippi's controversial Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act and even helped write Gov. Phil Bryant's signing speech, emails obtained by the attorney suing the governor show. Alliance Defending Freedom, which supported Mississippi's Religious Freedom Restoration Act enacted in 2014, brought the idea of the "religious conscience" bill, which would eventually become HB 1523, to Mississippi more than a year ago.

    I grew up in Monroe County in a small town about 30 miles south of Tupelo, which is about an hour and 30 minutes from Muscle Shoals, Ala. I knew about the Muscle Shoals music scene from an early age because when there was a big dance at the country club or one of my parent's class reunions, The Decoys were usually the band that played at those events.

    Chief Bart Aguirre said three passengers and a pilot are dead in the crash near Colonial Estates Road, north of the Tupelo Regional Airport. According to the Federal Aviation Agency, the Beech BE36 crashed at 8:32 a.m., one half a mile from Runway 18. The pilot reported smoke in the cockpit before the crash.

During an initial court appearance Tuesday, Justice Court Judge Chick Hopkins set bond at $150,000 for Marshall Leonard, of Tupelo, who was formally charged with planting an explosive.
