South DeKalb County reeled this week from the abrupt closure of the Stonecrest Sam's Club on Thursday, and notification that the Walmart Neighborhood Market at Covington Highway and Panola Road is closing Jan. 30. Members attempting to shop at the Sam's Club at 2994 Turner Hill Road were turned away by a security guard who informed them that the location was permanently closed effective Jan. 11. There were no posted signs Thursday about the closing of the 133,840-square-foot club which opened for business on Aug. 7, 2003.
