    The American Red Cross installed 1,473 smoke alarms during its first-ever Install-A-Thon, shattering the goal of 1,200 smoke alarms. The Connecticut and Rhode Island Region of the Red Cross partnered with communities across Connecticut and Rhode Island for the Red Cross Install-A-Thon March 6 -10 A snow event caused the postponement of the New London event which was ultimately held on March 20. The Install-A-Thon was part of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign to reduce the number of home fire deaths and injuries.

    Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has banned the possession and consumption of alcohol at Burr Pond State Park, to address public safety issues at that location. "I have exercised my authority to declare a 90-day ban on alcohol at Burr Pond State Park because large numbers of people consuming large volumes of alcohol that is not a combination conducive to public safety and enjoyment of our state's natural resources," said DEEP Commissioner Robert Klee.
