Moments after the verdicts were read, a Shawnee County sheriff's deputy snapped handcuffed on Hughes' wrists after a district judge revoked his bond.

    Topeka's governing body is trying to figure out what to do with an estimated $8 million the city will have left over in revenue from a countywide, half-cent sales tax after it expires Dec. 31. Governing body members took up the topic at their meeting Tuesday evening, where Councilman Jonathan Schumm recommended the city put the money entirely toward fixing streets. Deputy city manager Doug Gerber discussed potentially using the money to carry out a comprehensive project to address a myriad of infrastructure problems existing in the area bounded by S.W. Topeka Boulevard, S.W. Buchanan, S.W. 6th and S.W. 8th streets.
