    A public meeting was held requesting vacation of a portion of the First Street right-of-way between the alley and Tonasket Ave. South, blocks 13 and 14 at the July 26 Tonasket City Council meeting. The council approved the ordinance following a review by Permit Administrator Christian Johnson, with the city retaining a general municipal easement for the existing utilities.

Mayor Patrick Plumb gave them the floor for a long and fact-filled presentation before telling them he was offended by their request for support, due to possible contamination of Tonasket's water should the dam be removed.     Pacific Northwest Trail Days will take place in Oroville this Saturday, Aug. 6th at the Oroville City Park on 17th and Main St. This annual celebration of the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail will begin at 9 a.m. and continue all day ending at about 9 p.m. Sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Trail Association, this is a community party in recognition of the National Scenic Trail that passes through Oroville. As the halfway point on the trail, Oroville is a major stop for through hikers needing to rest and refuel before taking on the Pasayten Wilderness and the trail west to the Pacific Ocean.

    The court issued an arrest warrant July 7 for Kenneth Ray Squetimkin, 24, Okanogan, for second-degree burglary and third-degree theft. The crimes allegedly occurred June 24. The court issued an arrest warrant July 7 for Brandy Marie Summers, 39, Tonasket, with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle and one count each of third-degree malicious mischief and second-degree criminal trespassing.

    Tonasket's Water Ranch and Splash Park opened at high noon Friday, July 1. The park, located in Chief Tonasket Park, is free to the public and open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Okanogan County Department of Health gave the final approval for the park to open following approval from Washington State DOH. "I tell you what, when that guy handed over the permit I kind of started shaking all over, and asking myself, 'is this really happening?' I go down several times a day and there are always kids there," said Linda Black with a laugh of joy and relief at this stage of the project she has held near and dear the last few years.

Following an interview with the Principal Hiring Committee, a tour of the building by ASB middle school students, an interview with school district administrators and an interview with middle school staff and a Meet the Candidates session with community members and school board members, the decision to hire Krieg was announced Friday, June 24. "It was neat to get to meet some of the community members and hear their perspectives," Krieg said about the Meet the Candidates session.

Lifeline, a private, for-profit business was chosen over North Valley Hospital, who also put in a bid to take over providing ambulance services after Tonasket EMS EMTs were notified May 25 of their impending job losses.

    Okanogan County Commissioners issued a Request for Qualifications from potential vendors to take over Tonasket Emergency Medical Services , with plans to put it out to bid June 17. North Valley Hospital CEO Mike Zwicker approached the Board of Directors Thursday, June 9, for permission to respond to the Request for Qualifications to take over running the ambulance service. This Tonasket EMS ambulance, driven by EMT Lelani Kilpatrick in the Tonasket Founders Day Grand Parade Saturday, June 4, caused a stir and concern among community members reading the words 'Farewell' and 'We love you' written across the back.
