    Chaumont Fire Chief Fred E. Jackson said that the house at 10584 County Route 8 and its garage were both “fully involved” by the time his company arrived at 7:54 p.m., with sustained winds of about 18 miles per hour and gusts of up to 44 mph making quick work of the two-story house. “We were there until about 1:30 a.m.,” Chief Jackson said, “and we had to use water wetter to deoxygenate the flames.” The oxygen from the wind made the fire particularly strong, so the “water wetter” foam had to be used in addition to the company hose.
