    Water and sewer customers in the Thomson and McDuffie County will see a seven percent increase in their rates beginning March 1. The McDuffie County Board of Commissioners and the Thomson City Council approved the Water-Sewer Commission's Jan. 19 recommendation to increase water-sewer rates across the board at a level of seven percent a year in 2016 and continuing for the next five years. The increase means that on a typical bill of 5,000 gallons of water usage per month, the rate for residential customers goes from $48.50 to $51.90, or a $3.40 increase monthly.

    On Jan. 23 at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Richmond County Sheriff's Office with the help of the Rock Hill, South Carolina Police Department, apprehended the two suspects wanted for robbing the Marathon Convenience Store in Thomson on Jan. 21. Jonathan Randy Fesperman, 19, and Taylor Diane McNamara, 19, both from Rock Hill, South Carolina, were brought into custody in Richmond County. Rock Hill authorities had been searching for the pair for numerous crimes committed including armed robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and theft of a firearm.

    The McDuffie County Sheriff's Office is seeking a man and woman who robbed the Marathon Convenience Store on Jan. 21. A man and woman, both white, walked into the store at Washington Road and Interstate 20 in Thomson at 6:30 p.m. and purchased a few items, said Ju Bell, the store's manager. The couple left the store but the man came back at approximately 8:15 p.m. The man entered the store, produced a handgun and demanded money from the clerk, said Sheriff's Office Major Ronnie Williamson.
