    A one-year suspended sentence was ordered today for a former Vigo County Schools employee who admitted to writing a check to herself from a Riley Elementary PTO bank account. Tricia Finney, 43, of Terre Haute pleaded guilty to one count of criminal conversion, a class-A misdemeanor, during a change of plea hearing in Vigo Superior Court 1. Finney appeared in court with defense attorney Jessie Cook, who stated that Finney had bought wind chimes for retiring South Vigo High School faculty and reimbursed herself from the PTO account.

    A Naval History and Heritage Command historian recently uncovered information that sheds new light on a dark episode in U.S. Navy history: the loss of the WWII cruiser USS Indianapolis , NHHC officials announced July 25. In the final days of the war, Indianapolis completed a top secret mission to deliver components of the atomic bomb used in Hiroshima to U.S. forces in the theater. After dropping those components off at Tinian in the Marianas Islands, Indianapolis headed to Leyte, an island in the Philippines, when it was torpedoed and sunk by a Japanese submarine just after midnight on July 30, 1945.
