The book, with a foreword by former Tar Heel star Phil Ford, includes coverage of Smith's victories on and off the court for more than five decades and dozens of photos from the Observer archives. The book includes stories by the late Bob Quincy, Max Muhleman, Leonard Laye, Ron Green Sr., Frank Barrows, Scott Fowler, Charles Chandler and Ron Green Jr. The book will be available in early March for $14.95, plus shipping & tax.

    Authorities in Orange County have dropped charges against a former UNC tutor who had been accused of misconduct in connection with the university's football program in 2010, according to a report from WRAL in Raleigh. WRAL reported that District Attorney Jim Woodall's office announced Thursday that the four felony charges against Jennifer Wiley Thompson had been dropped.
