    The crash occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on U.S. 380, 12 miles east of Tahoka, when the driver of a 1987 Volkswagen Scirocco struck the back of a 1994 Peterbilt tractor-trailer as it was stopped on the eastbound shoulder of the highway, according to a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety.A third vehicle, listed as a 2012 Ford F-550 truck, was parked to the left of the tractor-trailer with amber overhead lights activated. According to the statement, the driver of the Volkswagen was traveling east on the highway; as it approached the stopped vehicles, the car reportedly veered to the right to avoid striking the Ford truck, striking the tractor-trailer in the process.

At about 4 a.m., crews were called to the scene eight miles south of Tahoka after a semi-tractor trailer was traveling southbound on US 87 when the driver, 46-year-old Craig Pearson of Amarillo, reportedly fell asleep, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt.

    Chris Montez, a Marine Corps sergeant who received a specially equipped home from Homes for Heroes to enable him to live in a more independent way, has died at age 41. Services in celebration of his life and service to the nation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Montez became a paraplegic in a helicopter training accident in 2004.
