    In a 3-2 vote Thursday, the North Tahoe Public Utility District board of directors approved an agreement to transfer ownership of the 85-acre Firestone property, which it's owned since 1990, to Placer County. With that, the county would take over the PUD's planning, permitting, construction, operation and maintenance responsibilities for the Dollar Creek Shared-Use Trail, which is planned to extend from Dollar Hill to the North Tahoe Regional Park.

    The U.S. Forest Service is accepting comments on a proposal to restore four miles of the Truckee River near Tahoe City. The Forest Service, Truckee River Watershed Council and Placer County are collaborating to address and repair erosion and degraded water quality caused by users accessing the river and the paved Truckee River Bike Trail from roadside pull-outs on Highway 89. "The USFS and Watershed Council have known for many years this part of the Truckee River is being loved to death," said Jeannette Halderman, project manager for TRWC.
