Delvon Duane Upton, 51, was reportedly carrying a compound bow that was loaded with arrows, and he was yelling and cursing at other people in the area.

    A single vehicle accident claimed the life of a Sutherlin woman over the weekend, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Misty Lynn Thompson, 38, was the front passenger of a 1994 Mercury Villager van, driven by John Jay Southwell, 37, of Sutherlin, who was driving west on Deady Crossing Road before hitting the east end of a bridge guardrail head-on at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday.

Although it's true that readers often devour these stories - "if it bleeds, it leads" is a journalistic maxim - we can become dispirited when reporting on traffic deaths, since the people who die in car crashes are most likely not guilty of anything.
