    Regarding the many destructive fires in the North State, I called our local Cal Fire, not to applaud them for their recent work in suppressing the terrible fires on I-5, but to state that we live out in Antelope and border on Salt Creek Overflow and that there is tall dry grass in said creek plus some small trees rapidly turning yellow. I mentioned that in the past, the Correctional Facility in Susanville had supplied convicts who cleared such brush and small trees to avoid destructive fires.

    SUSANVILLE >> High Desert State Prison officials are investigating the death of inmate Rodney J. Delong Jr., 28, as a homicide and the suspect is an inmate received from Tehama County in 1995. Custody staff found Delong unresponsive at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in his short-term restrictive housing unit cell, according to a press release issued Monday by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The frustrating part for head coach John Studer and his staff was that the Cardinals simply could not move the football, time and again getting shut down cold by the Eagles' defensive front, as West Valley went on to an easy 40-0 win over Corning, improving to a perfect 4-0 in NAL play.
