    Water conservation efforts statewide resulted in a 31.3-percent reduction in water usage for the month of July, exceeding the state's overall 25-percent mandate, according to a recent release from the State Water Resources Control Board. Dan Newton, the city of Susanville's public works director, said the city reduced its water usage for July by approximately 32.5 percent compared to usage in July 2013 - narrowly beating the state's conservation numbers but falling a little short of the 35-percent usage reduction rate imposed upon the city by the state.
