    Our condolences go out to the friends and families of the victim, who has been identified by police as Michael Hatch, 49, of Morgan Hill. Hatch was riding southbound in the bike lane on Great America Parkway around 5:30 pm Thursday crossing the intersection with Bunker Hill Lane during a green light.

    At its May 8 meeting, Sunnyvale City Council decided to adopt staff's preferred design proposal for Caribbean Drive as part of a phased rebuild of the Water Pollution Control Plant. The disappointing outcome followed renewed interest from the community after the bicycle fatality back in February, as well as subsequent request from Council to have staff consider more robust alternatives that prioritize safety for all roadway users.

    On Tuesday, May 8, Sunnyvale City Council will vote on a design proposal for Caribbean Drive west of Borregas Avenue. After carefully weighing the options, SVBC supports the Other Alternative Evaluated, as it would convert the existing bike lane and outer traffic lane into a Class IV protected bikeway: a high-quality bicycle facility separated physically from motor and pedestrian traffic.

    Not even two weeks after news broke of a bicyclist fatality in Sunnyvale, the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office has identified 64-year-old Thanh Hoang as the latest bicycle crash victim who died on Saturday in San Jose on Capitol Expressway. Early reports show that Hoang was riding on the shoulder around 9:30 a.m. when a silver 2002 Nissan Sentra "crashed into him."
