    Sterlington officials could be summoned to testify before a Ouachita Parish grand jury in light of a recent audit that knocked the town for the expenditure of restricted funds and the use of an illegal ticket quota system among officers, the district attorney says. Fourth Judicial District Attorney Steve Tew told The Ouachita Citizen last month that Sterlington Police Chief Barry Bonner's use of a ticket quota system and town officials' suspected misappropriation of funds had drawn his office's attention.

    Sterlington police arrested a Monroe man on several charges on Sunday including possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute after authorities stopped the suspect's automobile for a traffic violation. "Briggs advised he smoked marijuana around 7 p.m. and gave officers consent to search the vehicle," stated the Jan. 14 arrest report.

    The only reason provided by the officer for stopping the automobile concerned the "several items hanging" from the rearview mirror, cracks in the windshield as well as a "copious amount of items" on the dashboard, according to the Dec. 30 arrest report. Inside the automobile police found a red briefcase containing several bags of meth, a digital scale with meth residue, a burnt marijuana cigarette, a glass smoking pipe and other items, according to the arrest report.
