    President Barack Obama has nominated U.S. Attorney Edward Stanton III to be a federal judge for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. The nomination of Stanton, who has been the chief federal prosecutor for West Tennessee for five years, was announced Thursday, May 21, by U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen of Memphis, who recommended Stanton to the White House after convening a screening committee of local attorneys.

    Three suspects believed to be involved in a shooting near the Munford McDonald's Saturday night are expected to be charged with attempted murder, the Tipton County Sheriff's Office announced Sunday. According to the TCSO, Kelvin Lyrant Hines, 19, of Junior Drive in Covington, was in the McDonald's parking lot and armed when he approached a green four-door vehicle stopped at the traffic light at McLaughlin Road and Highway 51. Montavo Terry, 18, of Keeling Road in Stanton and a 17-year-old juvenile from Mason, who were inside the vehicle and armed with a shotgun and a handgun, reportedly returned fire before turning their weapons on narcotics investigator Demario Avery who was in an unmarked car behind them at the light.
