    A St. Simons Island man who was struck Monday night while riding his bicycle near Darien died a day later, the Georgia State Patrol said. Wesley Albert Kirk, 68, was riding an electric-assisted bicycle south on Georgia 251 north of Interstate 95 about 9:20 p.m. Monday, the state patrol said.

    Users of the Village Creek Landing landing on St. Simons Island got a reprieve Tuesday when Glynn County Commissioner Dale Provenzano announced that P & M Cedar products had extended a lease on a parking area for vehicles and trailers. P & M owns the parking area across South Harrington Road and the turn-around in front of the only public boat ramp on the island, and gave a 30-day notice last month that it was terminating the lease after the County Commission refused the company's request to abandon a part of the road shoulder that abuts a 14-acre tract of land on which the company plans to build a 42-lot subdivision.

    The St. Simons Land Trust purchased 58 acres of storied Musgrove Plantation Tuesday, the first acquisition of a three-phase agreement in which the conservation organization will buy 260 acres of the property's 450 acres, said Ben Slade, the founder and executive director of the land trust. The family compound of buildings, which is the former home of the late Nancy Reynolds Bagley, the daughter of tobacco magnate R.J. Reynolds, and her son, the late Smith Bagley, is not included in the sale nor is the entrance and tree-lined drive off Frederica Road, Slade said.
