    Jun 14, 2018 | The Planetary Society

Entrenched in the west rim of Endeavour Crater, veteran robot field geologist Opportunity is hunkered down in Perseverance Valley in a kind of hibernation mode. The rover is sleeping to save what little power she has left in hopes of surviving a dust storm the likes of which the Mars Exploration Rover mission has never experienced, a dust storm so rare that every NASA asset at the Red Planet will be checking it out.

    Jun 2, 2018 | The Planetary Society

Opportunity continued exploring the south trough of Perseverance in May, still looking for evidence that explains just how this one-of-a-kind valley meandering through Endeavour Crater's rim formed, and, along the way, helped the Mars Exploration Rover mission chalk up yet another first, linking with three relay orbiters in one Martian day or sol to send a pipeline of data home. The veteran robot field geologist the longest-lived robot on Mars, 14.4 years and counting has been taking a kind of magical mystery tour of the rocks in the south trough for more than two months.

    Apr 11, 2018 | The Planetary Society

In the west rim of Endeavour Crater, Opportunity continued her exploration of Perseverance Valley in March humankind's first study of a carved channel in an ancient crater on the Red Planet while scientists on Earth presented their latest findings from the robot's returns at a prominent science conference and Mars Exploration Rovers officials worked on the plan to keep the mission trekking through 2019. The robot field geologist spent most of the month checking out a couple of new outcrop targets at the "nose" or "upstream" end of an elongated "island" that separates two pathways in the Perseverance Valley's anastomosing - or branching - structure.

    Jan 5, 2018 | The Planetary Society

With the Martian winter on the run at Endeavour Crater, the Mars Exploration Rovers mission cruised closer to its 14th anniversary of exploring the Red Planet in December as Opportunity deliberated a distinctive "fork in the road" deep in Perseverance Valley and wrapped another record year. From the gentle slope in Perseverance Valley where Opportunity spent the 2017 holiday season, the robot captured these frames with her Panoramic Camera , and the Pancam team processed them in false color.

    Dec 1, 2017 | The Planetary Society

Opportunity continued the historic winter science campaign inside Perseverance Valley and delivered the goods that confirmed an important discovery in November, and then cruised through winter solstice, driving the Mars Explorations Rovers mission closer to its 14th anniversary of surface operations coming up in January. "We conducted a fascinating campaign to acquire one of the most difficult and beautiful microscopic image mosaics in the history of this project," said MER Principal Investigator Steve Squyres, of Cornell University.
