An initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred when Adrian Johnson, 16, of Washington, Louisiana was traveling southbound on LA 363 when her vehicle struck a cow that was in the southbound lane.

Chief Donald Thompson said today was just one of several roundups planned for the future in an effort to prosecute suspects who sell illegal narcotics.

After learning of Chris Few's arrest in Avoyelles Parish over the weekend, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office notified authorities that Few is also wanted in St. Landry Parish on outstanding warrants for burglary and thefts.

    United States Attorney Stephanie A. Finley announced Tuesday that a St. Landry woman was sentenced to 57 months in prison for stealing more than $116,000 in cash from an Opelousas-based medical imaging business. 40 year old Misty Johnson of St. Landry, La., was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Donald Walter on one count each of wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and theft of mail.

    The Department of Labor has issued the new rule, The Fair Labor Standards Act, which will increase the minimum salary a person must be paid in order to be exempt from overtime pay. "Right now it's $455 per week, that's going to increase on December 1 to $913 per week," said attorney Jerry Stovall with Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson, L.L.P. "People you expect to work in the evening, to work from their phone, to work from their iPad, that you really don't keep track of their hours; those are the people you're going to either have to raise their pay to continue to qualify them as exempt or start tracking all their time and pay them overtime," said Stovall.
