    Two men have been arrested in a pair of unrelated stabbing incidents that occurred just after 3 p.m. Thursday, July 23. Virgil Howard, 45, of St. Helena Island, is accused of stabbing and striking a 38-year-old man multiple times in the head in the Island Plaza. According to the release, Howard fled on food and was arrested nearby shortly after the crime occurred.

    The Beaufort County Library System will maintain branch hours at current levels following a vote last week by its Board of Trustees. The unanimous vote reversed the board's decision in April to scale back operations from 50 to 42 hours a week at the Bluffton, Hilton Head Island and Beaufort branches and from 40 to 32 at the St. Helena Island and Lobeco branches.
