    A group of residents and interest groups have filed a lawsuit against members of Dorchester County Council regarding a bond referendum on the general election ballot next month. The lawsuit was filed Thursday in civil court by attorney Andrew Gowder, of Pratt-Thomas Walker in Charleston, and Mike Rose, one of two attorneys for the Dorchester County Taxpayers Association, a plaintiff listed in the suit.

    Dorchester County has an overnight curfew that will be in place from 8 p.m. Oct. 8 until 8 a.m. Oct. 9. A press release from the county states there are 53,321 power outages in the county as of 6 p.m. Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Inc.'s website reported 30,522 outages in Berkeley County and SCE&G's website reported 7,925. There are 49 occupants at the Summerville High shelter, 49 at the Fort Dorchester High shelter and 13 at the Dorchester County Senior Center.

    In the early 1970s I was a member of the Summerville Chamber of Commerce and the discussion of not having a public library was a topic that was of considerable interest. At that time the only public library in Dorchester County was located in one room in the county courthouse in St. George.

    Early Thursday morning, the National Weather Service had issued a statement saying Dorchester and Berkeley counties were under a tropical storm warning until further notice.
