    The St. Johns County Tax Collector is closing its branch in Hastings effective Aug. 1, after 22 years serving the town, citing strains on other facilities in more populated areas of the county. "After analyzing, for several years, our transaction and customer numbers, population trends and projections, it has become necessary to close the branch in Hastings and shift those staff to other branches in St. Johns County experiencing significant growth," Tax Collector Dennis W. Hollingsworth said in a written release.

    An early morning, single-car crash in the 3700 block of County Road 214 claimed the life of a St. Augustine woman on Wednesday, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said. Sophia Lane Osenbach, 21, whose name was released in the afternoon once family members were notified, was pronounced dead at the scene when deputies responded just after 2:30 a.m. to a report of the crash.
