    Lowe's store manager James Bayer made an appearance at Monday's St. Augustine City Commission to answer a popular question around town: When will the new home improvement store in St. Augustine open? Speaking during the open public comments portion of the meeting, Bayer said the store at U.S. 1 near the intersection at State Road 312 is scheduled to open Aug. 12. Bayer said the store, which is at the former site of the county health department, will employ 175-180 people. In coming to the meeting, Bayer said he wanted to introduce himself to the residents because Lowe's is a company that tries to contribute to the community.

    A traffic stop Tuesday morning by a St. Augustine Beach Police officer led to the arrest of a suspect facing charges of four felony charges and two misdemeanor charges, mostly related to drugs. A release from SABPD said a 1997 white Toyota Rav4 driven by Myles M. Giacosa, 18, of St. Augustine, was pulled over in the area of State Road A1A South and Acacia Street for failing to slow down for a construction zone.

    Those who had come to depend on a nightly meal, served to the homeless and needy in downtown St. Augustine, have had to look elsewhere since earlier this week and will have to do so until Tuesday. In a May 1 email to volunteers and service providers to the homeless, Dining with Dignity coordinator Al Deinhart and Home Again St. Johns executive director Gary Peterson said they were shutting down the meal for a week beginning May 3. The email says the decision "was necessitated by an assault on one of our employees, lack of cooperation, foul language and disrespect by some of those being served."
