    The Jackson County Health Department was notified by the state laboratory that the horse "experienced acute onset of neurological signs on July 14," Mary Farmer, environmental health sanitarian II, said. The horse had been vaccinated for West Nile virus, but since it was 31 years old, an immune response might not have been triggered, according to a press release.
