    Witnesses said the plane burst into flames around 10 a.m. Rescuers found it burning in a field near the runway at the Creswell Airport, 15 miles south of Eugene. The Lane County Sheriff's Office identified the pilot as 35-year-old Milo Skinner of Springfield and the lone passenger as 83-year-old Hal Skinner of Springfield.

    A Springfield couple whose three children were killed in a crosswalk plan to file a wrongful death and personal injury lawsuit against various government agencies. The Register-Guard newspaper reports an attorney representing James and Cortney Hudson filed a tort-claim notice this week with the city of Springfield, Lane County and the state Department of Transportation and Department of Administrative Services.

Similarly, the Eugene Water & Electric Board has only had to provide more than 50 million gallons on three days this summer, compared to anywhere between 55 and 65 million gallons per day during hot spells in previous years.

    Authorities say a man killed by an escort he met online is being investigated for possible links to the unsolved disappearances or slayings of women nationwide. Neal Falls, of Springfield, Oregon, was carrying axes, a shovel and bleach when he was fatally shot July 18 by an escort he attacked in Charleston, West Virginia.
