Representatives were: Christopher Devoy and Pat Reilly, from Avon; Juan Garcia and Rory Mather, from Belmar; Ian Milkowski and Alek Polesky, from Brielle; Ife Alao and Jordyn Talucci, from H.W. Mountz; Liam Hoverter and Kieran, from Manasquan; Stephen Bird and Myles Lembo, from Sea Girt; and Colleen Dickenson and Joseph Kennedy, from Spring Lake Heights. Middle school social studies teachers Kevin Preston, SLHES, and Tom Russoniello, Manasquan Elementary School, were the two judges of the event.

    Three men sprang into action when a man was discovered floating in the middle of Shark River Tuesday calling for help. Mark M. Garner, 59, of Montclair, was spotted floating in the Shark River just east of the Route 71 [Main Street] drawbridge a little before 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, according to a press release from the Avon Police Department, which began receiving 911 calls at 8:53 a.m. Franco Galluccio, of Howell, and David Gordon, of Spring Lake Heights, both with First Degree Air Conditioning - Heating & Plumbing, were working on a house on Poole Avenue in Avon, when they heard the calls of a man in the Shark River.

    At the Belmar Board of Education reorganizational meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 9, Superintendent David Hallman said he had received a letter from Monmouth County Superintendent of Schools Lester Richens explaining that there is a problem with the way the sending districts are represented on the Manasquan BOE. According to state regulations, schools that send more than 10 percent of a high school's student body are entitled to a seat on the receiving school's board of education, Mr. Hallman said.
