"I don't do drugs, I never have, never will, and none of that stuff was true," Merriken told NJ Advance Media in an interview Friday.

    Embattled Spring Lake Heights Borough Councilman Robert Merriken Sr. was arrested yet again on drug-related charges Wednesday, this time in Brielle, after an arrest in April had prompted fellow council members to officially call for his resignation. A press release issued by the Brielle Police Department said Merriken was charged Wednesday with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, following a vehicle stop on Highway 71 in Brielle.

"I can tell you he is not," an intravenous drug user, said Charles Shaw, a lawyer for the councilman, Robert T. Merriken, in a phone interview with NJ Advance Media on Wednesday.

The crash happened Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Neptune Township when a Honda Accord and Jeep Cherokee collided on Route 18, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
