    Two Jonesville men are facing drug charges with one of them also facing a weapons charge following an investigation by the Narcotics Divisions of the Union County Sheriff's Office and the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office. In a statement released this afternoon, Union County Sheriff David Taylor announced the arrest of Alex "Dune" Kershaw, Jr., 42, 159 Foster Chapel Road, Jonesville, and Darryl Smith, 50, 181 Robinson Farm Road, Jonesville.

    "Union County farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers still have time to nominate eligible candidates to serve a three-year term as their representative on the Spartanburg/Union/Cherokee Farm Service Agency County Committee," announced Glenn Thomas, County Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency in a statement released Monday afternoon. The press release states that nomination petitions for this year's election must be postmarked or received in the Spartanburg/Union/Cherokee FSA County Office by close of business of the nomination deadline of August 1, 2016.

    L/Cpl Tony Keller of the SC Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 6:56 p.m. on SC 215 in Spartanburg County 15 miles south of the City of Spartanburg. Keller said that only one vehicle, a 2008 Hyundai, was involved in the accident.

The counterfeit checks first came to the attention of law enforcement as a result of an investigation by the Union County Sheriff's Office that began Tuesday when Union County Treasurer Dianne Wilkins contacted Chief Deputy Perry Haney about some suspicious checks in the June bank statement for her office's account at Arthur State Bank.

Harold Thomas Johnson, 35, of Rock Hill, died Tuesday evening at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center from injuries he received in the collision that occurred around 5:15 p.m. that day on SC 72 one mile east of the Town of Carlisle.
