A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the majority of the area until early July 5, according to the National Weather Service.

    Volunteers from the Lubbock-based chapter of the American Red Cross spent much of the weekend deployed in Anton as residents were left with significant damage to their homes and vehicles following severe storms Friday night. Laura Hann, executive director for the South Plains Region chapter of the American Red Cross, said the first call for assistance came at about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday when Anton residents were seeking assistance after golf-ball sized hail tore through their homes, making some of them unlivable as roofs were gone.
