    A 34-year-old West Allis woman and a 48-year-old South Milwaukee woman were arrested for armed robbery following an incident in the 6100 block of South New York Avenue at 4:55 p.m. May 26. According to police reports the two women were in a car, and the West Allis woman jumped from the car, threatened a Cudahy woman with a knife and took $75 from her, after she had set up a meeting to buy pills. The South Milwaukee woman told police the Cudahy woman owed her money, and her plan was to take the money and not deliver the pills.

Really impressive was the SMHS Alumni Stringt Ensemble, under the direction of retired SM Orchestra Director Pat DerHovsepian, composed of Other acts included a balloon juggler, a jugless jug band, a unicycle troup, a Flamenco dance company, an indigenous women hand drum band, a trombone quartet, a spoken-word poet, what had to have been the most unique hula hoop act going, and a cameo by Rosie the therapy dog.

    South Milwaukee's Fifth Grade Girls Basketball Team placed fourth at the Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Basketball Tournament held in Appleton March 28 and 29. The WSICT, organized by the Great Northern Basketball League, brought together 59 of the top community-based fifth grade girls basketball teams in the state, organized into divisions based on the enrollment of the high school into which each school feeds. The Rocket Girls emerged from a field of 21 Division 2 teams, losing to Beaver Dam then besting Sparta, Milton and Menasha to qualify for the Championship Round, before succumbing to Monona Grove in the semi-finals and finishing behind third-place Hortonville.
