    From sunrise to sunset, volunteers took turns sitting on the balcony of the 37-foot-tall South Haven lighthouse to raise money for a $300,000 campaign to restore the iconic beacon. Pamela Chappell, a South Haven native, stood on the balcony of the lighthouse during the first Lighthouse Sit event to show support of the renovations.

    South Haven High School graduate Luis Vargas and Shannon Thompson, a graduate of Gull Lake High School, are the 2015 recipients of the Kalamazoo Community Foundation's Kreager Family Scholarship, said a press release from the Kalamazoo Community Foundation. The scholarship, which was established by South Haven residents David and Kathy Kreager, is awarded each year to college-bound graduating high school seniors who have suffered the loss of a parent or parents either by death or abandonment after infancy.

    The South Haven senior broke a school record with a discus throw of 131 feet, 7 inches to end up with a second-place finish at the Division 2 state championship meet at Zeeland Stadium Saturday. The results were great, but a complete surprise to Goodwin, who was seeded higher in the shot put, but finished 18th in that event.
